: Rub olive oil into it. Works every time! Just dry with a paper

-------
Any kind of oil works usually. I like to use eucalyptus oil because
it smells nice, and then after applying the oil I rub hard with a
paper towel. It generally works really well, and the oil helps to
remove the stickiness if you use a sticky fixative (like the lemon-
sugar solution). As Cindy says -- avoid water as much as possible,
especially in the beginning, and in general while washing your hands,
don't use harsh antibacterial soaps if possible -- you want to
prevent the design from exfoliating off. also -- In India, people
generally use a [blunt] knife to scrape the mehndi off. This works
okay but is somewhat painful if an aunt determined to get every last
bit of henna off your hands decides it is within her right to scrape
your skin till it's red! (putting oil on the henna and then using
the knife to scrape the henna off yourself works fine)
