Mineral oil, or for that part any other oil or body lotion, forms a
barrier between you and the environment, keeping water molecules close
to the skin. Unfortunately it also forms a barrier between your skin
and the henna, which will lessen the reaction between the two. Wash
the area to be hennaed thoroughly and don't apply mineral oil until
you are finished the process. Oils and lotions may also cause you to
exfoliate (drop dead skin cells) faster; softer, smoother skin does
not take henna as well as the calloused dead stuff.
