Staining process

What is the staining stages that the henna designs go through. Does
it start out orange and the longer you keep it on the more
brown/black it becomes, or does it start out light brown and just
keep getting darker brown/black? What would happen if I removed the
henna after about 15 minutes, what shade would it be?
