Dear Henna enthusiasts
I have a problem with L'Oreal calling their product MEHNDI, when this
is a non-toxic black ink that washes off with water.
I have contacted Trading Standards and their response is as follows:
As understand, you were concerned that L'Oreal was misleading the
public by using the direct Asian translation of henna, namely Mehndi,
to describe their henna kit. Natural henna is brown and the version
sold by L'Oreal is black.
I have consulted the Trading Standards Service at Kensington and
Chelsea (UK) who have a Home Authority Agreement with L'Oreal and who
have had discussions with the company on this subject. It has been
decided that the description does not offend the Trade Descriptions
Act because Section 3 of the Act states that a trade description must
be false to a material degree in order to constitute an offence, and
it was decided that the description may appear misleading it was not
misleading to a material degree.
I hope this information is of assistance to you.
They told me that if other people complained they would look into it.
