: Why do some women love to paint their nails?

For many excellent reasons, none of which have to do with nail
parlours.

When you make gestures dancing, flirting, or in conversation, you tend
to use your hands. If the tips of your fingers are hennaed, or you
have coloured or patterned nails, these gestures are enhanced. To have
long nails also implies that you are so beloved and well cared for
that you do not have to wear your hands out doing menial tasks. This
puts a premium on your social status. This is attractive to males.

Beyond that, in primates and higher mammals, the alpha female of the
group does not have to trouble herself to work very hard for her keep.
She has earned her status in the group, (usually the VERY hard way)
and is the alpha bitch. The alpha bitch generally is in charge of the
well-being of the pack. Young males are useful, but tolerated only
as a necessary evil. The alpha females' talons are therefore very
long and elegant, and her coat is always well groomed. Males are
hardwired to respond to alpha females, and they are apt to provide the
alpha female with more bananas than usual for her favours.

This is corroborated by numerous ladies in the profession of hanging
by their ankles on a pole for a living, who find that they get 30%
higher tips if their nails are exquisitely long and decorous.
