I must say I am shocked. I can't imagine anyone who reads this forum and benefits from Catherine's generosity with her research and her patterns (always accompanied by their significance) being so bold as to call her stupid. Even if she were, which she most certainly is not, many of us came to this forum ignorant on the subject. We certainly would have been driven away promptly if our comments had been met with such an attitude. (Thereby, I might add, remaining ignorant about the tradition you seem to want to preserve. Counterproductive?) The point of the forum is to communicate, not berate. By the way, I fing nothing meaningless about a tradition that brings women and families together to tend to each other and share blessings and culture, even if it is mainly for the purpose of adornment. Did you ever have a mother or sister who would brush your hair? Have you ever seen apes pick the bugs off each other? It's called bonding. And it's very meaningful in and of itself. Although I have not done the research that Catherine has, I suspect this is one thing that remains constant throughout the history of henna. The rituals and context in which it is done vary, as does the weight given to its symbolism.
