Thanks!! I did actually find information in time -- at "The Woad Page" (I've listed the URL below). After discovering that the use of woad is still open to debate I decided that there was no way I could be infallibly authentic -- I should just concentrate on giving the public what it wanted. So, no woad being immediately available, I substituted blue acrylic paint and painted faces in large whorls and stripes. It was a big hit. We also did alot of Celtic Mehndi -- I do everything freehand too, and find that people are very understanding about which designs are possible once I ask them to imagine doing the design in frosting!
