The henna-like floor patterns are Mandana and Rangoli (in India)
...and "Arts of Rajasthan" covers them very thoroughly (though with
some of the same attitude problems he brought to his coverage of
henna). The author classifies the floor patterns as "sacred", and
henna as "not sacred" ...as no puja or fasting is required for henna,
and the floor decorations are for specific deities, whereas the henna
patterns are definitely not. The designs are splendid, and I'm doing
as much digging as I can about them, as they parallel henna and the
textile traditions. I wouldn't mind a bit if there was a mandana
forum.....

I have some of these patterns adapted for henna, if anyone wants 2
sheets of them....email me...
