That is the 8th month of pregnancy....when it doesn't take too many
extra goodies to finish filling a lap.
The ladies mixed dung with red dirt (Oklahoma type dirt) which made
some sort of a hard water-resistant surface, dark red. That was easy
to whitewash if it was a wall...and easy to chalk or paint if it was a
floor. The author lamented that the old mud-and-dung houses were
being replaced by cement houses....(as rapidly as the ladies could
manage, as they sort of liked the idea of not having to re-dung the
house every few weeks).
