I don't think you have bad henna. When henna is mixed with whatever
liquid you choose it starts to smell like grass clippings or
spinach. The smell you notice once the henna is on your skin is an
entirely different smell from the paste. Also, the color should be a
dark green color, not brown or red. If it is brown or red, this is a
clear indication that you have bad quality henna. The brighter the
green color of the powder, the better the quality.
