girls and henna

I've read the descriptions on the different occaisions for henna use
and Catherine's warnings against using henna on small children and
babies and have a question.

When were girls first included in the henna festivities? When they
reached puberty or just when they were old enough to sit still? Are
there certain designs for young girls, etc.
