Blessingway - kind of OT

I have friends that have had a "blessingway" before the birth of their
baby, and I guess it's common to have henna done at them. My problem
- I have a pregnant friend that is curious about a blessingway, and
would like to have belly-henna done, but we are both Christian. Is a
blessingway a pagan thing, like giving thanks or asking blessings from
other gods or dieties? Has anyone attended, or had one, or organised
one that could tell me about the traditions and "meaning" behind it?
And how would henna be best incorporated? Is it basically like the
pregnancy party that Catherine described previously?
