My henna business started quickly, with a few books, and not much time
to build an original portfolio. Like many artists, I took pictures of
my earliest works as a reference. Of course, these photos went into my
portfolio. Many of them are designs inspired by the big three-Sumita
Batra, Loretta Roome, Carine Fabius.

My hope is, as I learn, my designs will reflect a more original side,
and I can replace the inspired designs with originals. Of course, the
time & money issue. Developing film sure isn't cheap!

There will always be similarities between all of our designs. After
all we are all using the same few traditional elements.

When I met Carine Fabuis in person, I confessed to her of copying
designs from her book-she was flattered! Hers was the first book I
had, so the first few appointments I had, it was the only thing my
clients had to choose from.

About the legalities of copyrights- I believe you only have to change
a design 15% to be able to call it "your own".
