I have used Freeman's Cucumber and Ginseng peel-off mask to remove or at least fade henna designs. I put on a fairly thick coating of mask and let it sit for a few minutes. Then use toilet paper or Kleenex to wipe it off BEFORE it gets dry. You might have to scrub a bit but not to the point that it irritates your skin. On henna which has been on a few days or so (but is still very dark) the pattern will usually come right off or at least fade quite a bit. On brand new henna it doesn't work as well but may at least lighten the design.

I don't think this would hurt your skin--it's not abrasive and is designed for skin. I discovered this when experimenting with mask instead of lemon/sugar and inadvertently got some on an older design. Since then I've tried it a few times and it seems to work pretty well to take the henna off as well as to keep it on.
