Hi!

Before you put a lot of henna over your scar (or anywhere else) do a
small patch test on the healed scar and some undamaged skin. You
will in most likely not have any problems, but better safe than sorry
(especially if you react as strongly as you did to the steri-
strips).
I know from experience that you can become allergic to most anything
even after having used it many times in the past. I used to dye my
hair all the time and never did a patch test until one day my whole
head broke out in hives! Now I can't even use semi-perm to cover my
gray.
Although your experience might be an isolated event (let's hope), I
think it is likely you will be allergic to the adhesive on the Steri-
Strips now. Once your Ie-antigens determine that something is to be
fought against they will take up war with it every time it comes into
contact with that particular item. It will not matter how much time
between exposures. See if your doctor will do a dermatologic
sensitivity patch test on you before you use the Steri-Strips or
other types of adhesive.
Power to you!

: Hello hello! I've got a funktified question for ya'll. Recently
I've
: had surgery and my skin broke out into horrifying blisters from the
: Steri-Strips that was left over the scar. I've never had a reaction
to
: Steri-Strips before (which is basically paper tape, I think), and
my
: Dr. told me that the configuration of the post-surgical skin may
have
: changed enough to have a sensitivity to the strips. I've also had
: radiation done on the same patch of skin... (I don't recommend
cancer
: in any form to anybody... :) )

: This makes me wonder if Henna could have the same effect on that
patch
: of skin. Of the wizened bunch of you, have any of you had problems
: with scar tissue, and/or has the henna stained differently on such
: areas of the body? I would like to know for when I do henna on
others
: and myself (seeing as I come across radiated scar tissue SOOOO
often).
: Until then, I won't be touching my own scar tissue with Mehndi...
