Acorns and other tannins

There are a lot of tannins that will dye fiber (collagens, keratins)
.... because you can boil fiber, add mordents, and all sorts of other
things that you CANNOT do to your skin (while you're still living in
it). Acorn is one of those. You may be able to stain the tips of
your fingers where the skin is very dead and the dead layer is very
thick, but it won't penetrate much or be very dark for very long.
Hennotannic acid is unusual in that the molecule is very small and
will penetrate skin cells easily and bind readilly at 100F or so.
The other stuff would work well if we were deader, or hotter.
