Hej,

My old journalism teachers would have had me practicing obituaries
for something like this -

: As a former journalist, I find it irresponsible to not be familiar
: with one's subject. A friend of mine had a disastrous interview
w/a
: local reporter (not me!). She is a yoga instructor and the
: interviewer, I kid you not, wanted to know, "How does one become a
: yogurt instructor and how do you feel about the non-fat and sugar
: free varieties?"

When I did my first library workshop, one of the local papers sent a
photographer who didn't get my name right in her cutline and who
didn't seem overly familiar with what I was teaching. Another paper
sent a reporter who didn't talk to me (but did talk to the library
coordinator) and seemed to take what little information appeared in
his article (only a paragraph or two) from the handouts I'd prepared
for the kids.

Oh - to interview someone as informed as Catherine - good for not
only the reporter but the editor and audience!

--Anne, the frustrated copy editor wannabe with that pesky degree in
journalism . . .
