As you know, Moroccan henna is my particular passion, and in my
reading I learned that the henna plant first grew in North Africa
where it was used for dyeing textiles. It was later brought to India
by traders and it was the Indians who used it to draw on skin. Do
you know if this is true, from your research?

A few weeks ago there was a series on the History channel called the
History of Sex. The episode that focused on sex in Asia showed a lot
of great Indian miniatures with lots of hennaed women. Of course,
henna was not the focus of the show so I didn't get to see as much as
I wanted. I think I will take a trip to the Asia Society soon and
see what they have at their bookstore. There are also a few stores
that specialize in imports from Asia who carry these miniatures, some
of them from the Kama Sutra. I will be there ogling the henna, not
necessarily all the varieties of positions!
