In my humble little opinion, your henna is beyond repair, tired to the core, worn out and stale. Good henna should stain well when mixed only with lemon juice. You shouldn't boil the henna, but it is advised that the lemon juice be warm when it is mixed with the henna powder. All the additions to the basic mix of henna powder and lemon juice (such as tea, coffee, cloves, wine, pomegranate skin etc.) are just minor additives to pump up the color. With good henna you don't need them. Don't be too discouraged just get new fresh henna, and then go to any number of websites that give instructions on mixing up a great batch of henna paste. I have complete instructions at http://www.kenzi.com/hennahistory.com. Keep experimenting and asking questions.
