: My mother is so into my new henna hobby (which I think is very
cool), that every time I see her she wants her feet done. She has
shown these designs to an Indian friend of hers at work, who got a
big kick out of the fact that I was trying to learn the art. When
she mentioned it to her sister (in India), the sister actually
harvested one of her henna plants and ground powder for me. People
can be SO sweet sometimes.

: Anyway, I could not wait to see the fantastic results I was sure to
get with this fresh powder. Applied it last night to the very tops
of my feet. Since this skin is thin, I usually only get an orange
color here & darker around the edges of my feet. This morning I was
so sad to see that even with such fresh henna, my design was still
only orange. In fact, a much lighter orange than normal. I rubbed
it with a little clove oil (which I'm still not sure helps, but has
been associated with some good results), put on my nursing shoes &
went to work, downtrodden.

: Imagine my surprise when I changed out of those shoes this evening
& found a fairly dark, burnt sienna design. The color is not very
dark, but darker than I usually get in this spot (I wonder how dark
it would have gotten around the edges). But what is really
surprising is the amount of change over the course of the day. I've
had color develop after the paste was removed before, but never such
a change. The design made with this very fresh henna went from a
wussy, disappointing pale orange to darker than usual. I will let
you know if it darkens even further overnight.

: Odd.

: Theories?

: What after care do others use to develop their color after the
paste is off? Do you think it deepens just as much if left alone?
It may be that the sweat of a 13-hour nursing shift played some part?
