You need a series of GIFs, much like frames for animation, and a GIF
animator tool. (Linux has one, but I don't remember what it's
called off the top of my head). It runs them all together, and voila!
you get an animated GIF to stick onto your web page.

Or you could use Java or Javascript to animate it.
