: I came across a small kit at a Sally Beauty Supply Store (of all
places!). I bought it and the kit contained a small jar of dry henna,
a tiny vial marked eucalyptus oil and another small vial the packaging
says contains setting oil, 2 stencils and a couple of other small
things.

: The only thing is that there is a VERY strong smell of turpentine.
Is this stuff safe to use?

EEEeeeeew... It's not SUPPOSED to smell like turpentine. :-P

Eucalyptus maybe, lemon maybe, but turpentine NO! I've heard that
some people use turpentine (or similar solvents like lighter fluid) to
make the designs darker or to compensate for poor quality henna
powder... But yeeech, there's no way I'd put that stuff on my skin.
Another good reason to either do it yourself or only have a trusted
friend or artist do it for you.

: I'd also like to know - I am going to be experimenting for the first
time on my feet (a great spot since its cold here in Chicago and if I
mess up nobody will know) will my stained skin stain my socks?

Not once you take off the black paste it shouldn't. If you're really
worried just wear black socks! :-)
