So after seeing all the wonderful harquus patterns Catherine has researched-I can't help wondering a couple of things. #1. It seems to me that the designs draw attention to certain areas of the face. I know in Persian minatures, women were depicted as having the "monobrow" which was apparently very sexy. I see lots of attention drawn to the chin and cheeks. I've heard the superstition about Harquus in Morocco being near the mouth so that your husband pays attention to what you are saying. Maybe these areas were attractive to men of those time periods and cultures just like men today are attracted to legs, breasts, bottoms, etc. #2 I'm SURE whatever Harquus potion is applied to the face does not let any sunlight through. Think about what would happen if you got a sunburn while wearing this! I've seen a few football players who, after a season of wearing grease on thier cheeks, have a distinctly lighter area under thier eyes. I know it's a stretch-but maybe the REVERSAL of the designs or even combinations of lighter areas contrasting dark Harquus could have been a desired effect. Just rambling...any opinions? Carrie
