The fibertip crayola childrens' markers don't compromise the henna,
and as they are marketed as safe kiddy stuff, they seem safe. Those
can be wiped away with a damp cotton ball so they're great for
working up somthing complex like a Celtic knot piece.

There's a fibertip waterproof liquid eyeliner from Maybelline that
works, and seems very safe. It's good for doing pretend harquus, too.
(Though the Maybelline waterproof eyeliner that is the brush-on is
REALLY good to emulate harquus! )

Don't use marks-a-lot or any of the permanent markers that have "that
smell". Many people have nasty reactions to those.
