A more effective metheod of adding a dried lime reduction to your
henna is to purchase dried limes from any Pakistani or Middle Eastern
food store. I cook with them frequently and have found that when it
comes to using them in a henna mixture, they beat drying my own limes
hands down. If you make a reduction for future use, you could
probably store it in the frig for about a week -- but I would
recommend using it within that time frame as it is perishable. About
the cloves: the reason using a clove oil is the preferable metheod
has to do with concentration as well as the properties of the
substance. Adding oil to henna, whether it be clove or camphor or
some other sort, aids in providing a smooth consistency to the henna
mixture which, in turn, aids application and helps the henna to hold
its moisture during the application process. Essential oils are much
more concentrated than an infusion simply by virtue of the process by
which each is created. My advice: use the oil. Good luck.
