Henna products

Having trouble making a brew of Henna for body painting. Have never
done it before but so keen to try it.
I have purchased several bags of Henna powder and was told that I
should just mix with water and away I go, but have found that it has
not worked. Am I buying the wrong product ( apparently not when askinh
suppliers) or should I be mixing it with something else. Their seems
to be no penetration of the skin and limited effects. Do you have any
advise on the correct product to purchase and how to prepare it.
