Morocco mailbag....the magical henna stone

Someone asked a while back about a henna stone (they had heard of it
being used in Turkey) that when ground up and added to the paste
makes the henna stain black. I checked on this elusive stone and
found it to be quite UNmagical, I am sorry to say...its just
crystalized ammonia! And all the other 'secrets' to black henna
involve nasty chemical stuff, nothing new. Sorry to snuff out any
fevered imaginings about the mysteries of the East...we already know
most of the secrets. I will keep looking and maybe find somethings
we didn't even know existed.
