Henna Removal- Confused

Hi,

I recently henna'd my hair to no great change (it glints red, but unless it's direct light it might as well be my normal mousy brown). I'd like to take out the henna and use a different dye.

I read around your site and I've picked up that mixing henna and regular OTC dye is bad news, but that there are ways to remove henna (Rainbow Henna says you can take it out with 1/4 cup of mineral oil, warm, combed through. 20 min...).

My question is, if I remove the henna this way, am I still in the no-dye-unless-I-want-green-hair situation? How do you know henna is definitively gone?

I know you guys get this a lot so I appologize in advance. I just got even more confused reading around. =)
