Alternative to ammonia?

I was in the crafts store today stocking up on bottles and tips when I stumbled on a bag of "urea." It was a bag of little white pellets, apparently used to fix dyes. Now, considering that stale camel urine was alkaline enough to turn henna black, do you suppose this might work (I'm assuming this has the same basic chemical makeup) ? Has anyone tried it or know what the pH is? I may just have to go back and grab a bag...
