Iodine is hard to work with. Drippy. It doesn't penetrate all that well, either, and the color isn't thrilling. Iodine seems to be one of the constituents in walnut that stains.... a leap off topic here .....from a book I inherited from my Grandmother, written about 120 years ago ... It recommended that dutiful mothers check their sleeping sons at night and see if their hands were somewhere that indicated that they were "practicing self abuse". If hands were in an ungodly place, the mothers should go back night after night and put spots of iodine on them to stain them .... and convince the children that "self abuse" was leading to a horrible disease. My grandmother had that chapter bookmarked.....
