To be fair to Reuters, all they were doing is reporting the original
article in Archives of Dermatology. It is the authors of that article
who may well have made the mix-up, which is why I've emailed them.

I agree that Reuters should be informed that a little more
independent research wouldn't go amiss before blindly following a
journal article, but that's the difficulty with science journals -
non-scientists tend to take them as gospel.

I also feel that the jury should be out on this until I've had a
reply from the authors. It may just possibly be that the journal
didn't grant enough space for them to present the evidence they have.
After all, there are a very few known cases of allergy to henna
powder itself. The point that needs making though is that the risks
of reacting to henna powder are way lower than the risks of reacting
to PPD (if this was black henna), or all those secondary ingredients
in henna tubes which cause most of us to play safe and mix our own
paste.
