: I have to say that the garlic in the lemon-sugar water smells SO
: nasty. I did henna at Arabian Fest last year in Milwaukee with a
: woman from Morocco last fall, and she used the lemon/sugar/garlic
: mixture and it was totally putrid.....

: I guess if you don't mind the garlic smell...go for it. I had this
: Moroccan woman do a design on my hand, and I'll tell you the henna
: she used was totally sub-par.....even after having the
: lemon/garlic/sugar on. I have to say I definately still prefer the
: MUD.

I get sick if I eat garlic so even the smell of it has bad
connotations for me. And when it mixed with the smell of the henna
paste (which was perfumed with orange blossom water) it was pretty
nasty. It would be someone who isn't bothered by the smell should do
a side by side test (with and without the garlic) and let us know if
the garlic made a difference in the color; be sure to report back to
us.

As for Moroccan henna...there's bad stuff and there's good stuff.
Like any other henna it needs to be fresh to be effective. I am
getting great color from my latest shipment mostly because it's
fresh. I make sure to get stuff that is fresh AND hasn't been
sitting in the sun somewhere.

The woman who did my feet in Morocco used the same henna; she sent
one of the boys of the house out to get it and he didn't know
anything about henna and probably didn't ask for a package that had
been sheltered from the sun. Men in Morocco have an almost innate
abhorrence of henna so I would be surprised if he spent more than a
few seconds picking it out and paying for it...and still it was good
stuff and gave a great stain. Go figure!
