i can sympathise here...been doing henna for a number of years
myself, and went through a million and one different ways of doing
things. and went through two marble mortars n pestles...my white one
to this day is stained a shade of golden brown.

i would say don't use it again, but for me, i need a very fine paste
to use through my applicator bottle, and using an M&P was the only
way to achieve that fine paste, (this after sifting twice). But i do
add lemon juice to the mortar and let it sit for a bit, before adding
the sifted powder. I then use tea water...has worked for me for the
last few months.
