Its pretty easy to "eyeball it" I guess I put 2 parts lemon and half part sugar. I use less sugar because I reapply several times and don't want it too sticky.
I think the sealer in the kits have a perservetive in it. The ingredients say citric acid which can be alot of things.
Just use trial and error for your specialized sealer and Good Luck,
