So....the henna party was a smashing success thanks to the suggestions of those of you generous enough to respond to my post for suggestions both on and off-list.

The original plan was to have 3 brides plus a few girls from the office over. I would do henna for hte brides and the other girls would do their own. Oh no that didn't come close to happening. I did 8 girl's feet (both feet) and I didd one girl's back :)

I decorated my apartment with indian tapestries and beautiful arabic-style fabric draped everywhere. The living room had nothing but items condusive to henna, I even covered things like the TV with draped fabric and fringed shawls....it looked like a shiek's tent! We had tons of candles, incense and of course tiny white christmas lights behind the fabric that provided a wonderful glow.

On the floor I put a fairly large featherbed so that we could sit comfortably on the hardwoods. I also have the big beautiful pillows that frank just recently made for henna festivals...so we tossed those around on the ground....and the room smelled of incense, henna and eucalyptus oil.

For the food table, I set up my oil lamps, and had falafel, kibbi, hummus, babba, pita bread, tabbouli, and of course some middle-eastern sweet treats (mostly baklava).....I also provided ceylon tea (spent $40 at the middle-eastern market but I couldn't help it....i also bought Alabina's "sahara" what a fun album!).

I had some wonderful moody middle-eastern music, as well as more arabic pop...and we had fun. I dressed everyone up with a bindi, and a sarong (you know like the ones that you can buy that are batiked) just so that we were all dressed similar. That kind of added to the charm of the day. We ate, visited, told stories, played charades, were pampered, and they were here fromm 2:30pm - 10:30pm!!!!

I'm learning from this experience that a legit (well as legit as i can do in my apt) henna party takes a lot of planning and WORK....but all in all the rewards are well worth it. Frank is going to put up a "henna party" page on the Mehndi2DyeFor website, and you guys will be the first ones to know so you can go check it out and give me feedback. Actually I'm off to pick up the pictures as soon as I finish typing this post.

Thanks again!
