No, it doesn't work particularly well in a side-by-side comparison
test. Sorry about that. Side by side is the only way to really
evaluate techniques. That one doesn't stand up to testing.

Heat, and exposure to air DO darken henna. Henna darkens on its own,
just because it's oxidizing. Camphor can darken henna in some
conditions because it's a strong oxidant. Heat significantly darkens
henna. If you want to really darken henna, steam it, heat it, or if
it's on your palms or soles, there are ways to blacken it with
ammonia.
