I usually use an old eyeline pencil to draw out my patterns then
henna right over them. I'm in the same situation, no one who is
interested enough to help me out by doing my off hand hennaing for me
8^), so drawing out those designs makes a big difference for me. I
usually keep a few Q-tips (dry ones to wipe the paste away and some
soaked in an astringant to remove any leftover traces) handy to clean
up any mistakes as soon at I make them.
