Though I've been out of harness for a few years, I'm still on the media list for the Clevelan Museum of Art, so I got a press packet a few days ago for what looks to be a show that will be of interest ot any of you who take inspiration from ancient Egyptian art. It's called "Gifts of the Nile, Ancient Egyptian Faience." For those of you unfamiliar with it, faience is made by mixing ground silica with an alkali and some colorant, most often finely ground copper. The mixture is made into a paste with water, formed by hand or in molds, and fired until the silica fuses. The show includes over 200 pieces from 30 sources, and some of the pieces are rarely seen because they are in private collections.
The exhibit will be at the Cleveland Museum of Art from May 10 to July 5, at the RISD Museum in Providence RI Aug 26 to Jan 3, and at the Kimbell Art Museum in Ft Worth TX from Jan 31 to April 25.
