Any time a woman wears red ... henna or otherwise, she is noticed more
by men! Ask any lady who's income depends on getting men's
undivided attention (lawyer, stripper, whatever); Red is a magic color
for men. There is a reason for this buried in primate experience.
(We're still all gorillas and bonobos .. we just blew coat.)

Red is the color of many ripe fruits ... so seeing a bit of red in the
landscape attracts a hungry primate's attention.
Red is the color of spilled blood ... so seeing a bit or red in an odd
place puts a primate on the alert for a predator.
Red is the color of a primate lady's trowser furniture when she is in
"heat" ... that is to say, red is the color of a sexually available
primate ... and that REALLY gets a male's attention.
So ... briefly, red is food, f#$%^k, or fistfight, all of which get a
man's attention!

Red hands have been tied to the sexuality of women in the Eastern
Mediterranean countries since the late neolithic period ... and the
musky fragrance doesn't hurt a bit either.

I can't see any way to separate women's sexuality from their use of
henna ... women tend to first henna when they are first menstrual, and
they often quit hennaeing when they are widowed. Hennaeing hands after
a menstrual cycle was a cue that the woman was again sexually
available to her husband. That is to say, henna is a marker for
women's adult active sexual life. Sexually very active women (sex
workers) were the most frequent users of henna, historically, and
married women who henna too frequently historically may be accused of
being immodest. If a man (not husband) noticed the hennaed hands of a
married woman in the medieval Arabic world, he was scorned as
disrespectful of the woman's honor.

Personally, I could go on forever about women's sexuality and henna ..
It's one of my favorite subjects!
