Just did a class for bellydancers today and one of the dancers asked me if I knew anything about using squid ink to make henna black. Another dancer also asked me about this and said that a henna artist on Venice Beach said that his/her henna was all natural and was made black by the addition of squid ink.

Anyone know anything about this, or has anyone tried it?

I can't imagine that it would stain your skin. I have eaten foods containing squid ink and never saw my tongue turn black. Maybe it is a question of concentration of the ink in the paste.

Sounds like hooey to me, but I thought I'd put it out there for anyone who wanted to do some experimenting.

I don't bother with experiments to make black henna because I like the color of natural henna. I told my students that today because we were getting too deep into the subject of the possible natural ways to achieve blackness.
