I am deeply honored and lucky to be doing mehndi,
and I respect your teacher very much.
I am an artist.
I like to draw.
I got my first mehndi last year. As a creative and spiritual person I
enjoyed the experience very much. My first mehndi design was a lotus,
the artist added a ohm in the center and I was very touched. It looked
like so much fun to do, I thought I would give it a try. Perhaps save
my self some money. I eventualy met a lovely lady here named Angel,
she gave me my first gig and had alot of faith in my work.

With my first customers I was very nervous, I'm not a people person.
But some how when I draw everything is ok. The pleasure over throws my
nerves every time.

I was especially nervous doing a gig for diwali at an indian store
for indian clients. What would they say about the white girl with
henna? The store customers said the most wonderfull things to me.
They were supprised I was able to do indian designs with such ease.
I did the palms of an adorable little girl, and drank many cups of
chai!

So why am I telling everyone all this? We all are just as lucky as I
am. To create, and to touch others with beauty, this it the only
purpose of doing mehndi. Please do not forget this. Respect the art
and the culture it came from.

I do have alot of experience, more than some people here. I have done
thousands of people, but I try to remember how I started and try to
keep my dignity. For some reason mehndi is a very natural thing for me
to do.

Infact, today I did 2 large back pieces, Wings with an indian flair on
a womans back and A tribal design on her boyfriend. It really made my
day to draw on them!

I just love to draw, thats it! Now I just happen to draw in henna,
and it seems to make people very happy.

Marsha
