Here are some of my mother's best recipes.  She's one of the highest hit contributers on several of the recipe websites!  Enjoy!

Mom's Banana Bread

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cups butter, softened
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 4 large, ripe bananas
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup sour milk
Instructions:
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating after each one.
  • Sift flour, soda, baking powder and salt in separate bowl.
  • Add dry mixture to moist mixture, alternately with sour milk.
  • Pour batter into two pie pans or five mini loaf pans.
  • Bake 30-ish minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
  • Rub butter on top of bread after removing it from the oven.
  • Promptly join gym to remove banana bread induced side effects.

Mom's Chocolate Pudding Cake


Crust -
Ingredients and instructions:
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • Press into a 9x13 pan.
  • Bake 23 minutes @ 350 degrees
  • Cool completely
1st layer -
Ingredients and instructions:
  • 1 package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Blend well.
  • Fold in 1 cup of whipped cream.
  • Spread on top of crust.
2nd layer -
Ingredients and instructions:
  • (2) 4 oz boxes instant pudding, preferably chocolate and vanilla
  • 3 cups milk
  • Whip until thick.
  • Spread over cream cheese mixture.

3rd layer -
Instructions and ingredients
  • spread remnants of the tub of whipped cream over pudding mixture.
  • garnish with shaved chocolate and chopped nuts.

Grandma's Caramels

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups Karo Syrup
  • pinch of salt
Instructions
  • Mix and cook to 240 degrees in a large, heavy pot over medium low heat.
  • Add 2 cups heavy whipping cream and cook to 240 degrees.
  • Add 2 cups heavy whipping cream and cook to 240 degrees.
  • pour into buttered pan (large pan with at least  1/2 inch sides)
  • Cool, cut into 1 inch squares and wrap with wax paper.
(friends and family will hate helping wrap these, but don't seem to mind eating them!)


My Momma's Peach Cobbler


Ingredients and instructions for filling:

  • In a large pan mix 2 medium cans of sliced peaches.
  • Add cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
  • Cook over med/low heat until hot.
  • Mix 2 tbsp cornstarch with 1/2 cup cold water - add a little at a time to peach mixture to thicken.
  • Meanwhile, melt one stick of butter in a 9x13 pyrex pan.

Ingredients and instructions for crust:
  • In a large bowl, beat together 1 cup milk, 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 2 tsp baking powder.
  • Pour batter (it will be runny) in pyrex pan.
  • Spoon peaches on top of batter.
  • Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.


Grandma's Cut Out Sugar Cookies

Ingredients and instructions for cookies:

  • 1 1/2 cups butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • Cream together.
  • Add 4 eggs, beating after each one and 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Add 5 cups of flour, 2 tsp baking powder and 1 tsp salt.
  • Chill dough at least one hour.
  • Roll out onto floured surface 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
  • Cut into desired shapes
  • Bake 6-8 minutes at 400 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Ingredients and instructions for frosting:
  • For the icing, mix powdered sugar with a little milk.  Make it thin so you can brush it on the cookies.
  • Or, if you have TONS of time on your hands, make individual cones of different colored icing and decorate your cookies that way!
