Unstrainable henna?

I've just had my second experience with unstrainable henna! The
first was from Morocco, a free sample I got at pennsic. I mixed it
and tried to strain it through a stocking a la Kenzi, and only watery
runoff came out! The henna just sat there like a clump (it felt very
soft and smooth before mixing, but after mixing it was coarse-
looking).
The second one was very surprising... of course I had to find out
the very hard way. I had some beautiful henna from a friend in India
that I save for special occasions. I mixed some to do a bride last
weekend, and it did strain through a stocking, but it left a much
larger "unstrainable" portion than CA or Jamilah (again, the henna
was soft and smooth as baby powder). The problem came with the
ongoing use of j-bottles... it was fine in the very beginning, but
they ended up clogging like the dickens! I switched to a .7mm
from .5, and still they clogged! (and the henna took forever as a
consequence... and my car was dead when I came out in the wee
hours... argh! But the bride was very happy.) (And thanks CCJ! ;-)

I would assume that the hennas were cut, but the Indian henna gives
amazing color... I have a test dot on my hand from friday, and the
paste wasn't even dry when I removed it!
