Citrus acid powder and henna questions...

I have been experimenting off and on with citrus acid powder and
water mixtures instead of lemon juice since last summer. I have had
zero problems getting great stains with my recipe when I use the
lemon juice. But curiosity has made me want to see the difference I
can get with the citrus acid powder. I get really light stains that
never really develop when using the citrus acid. I have tried a lot
of the things people have said about their mixtures: tasting it to
make sure it is not too strong; using less than 1/8 of a teaspoon in
my paste to make sure it is not too strong; using more citrus acid
powder to see if it is too weak. But I am coming up with nothing.

I even bought a paste that listed citrus acid as an ingredient and
got the same results. Light and wimpy stain that does not develop.
Any idea what would cause that? Any exact measurements for 2
tablespoons of henna powder? Since I have never had problems with
the lemon juice, I am not looking to switch to the citrus acid
powder. I am just becoming increasingly more curious about why I am
getting nothing. I am sure it must be a problem with proportion. I
can't imagine that lemon juice would work on me but citrus acid
powder would not unless it is a problem with proportion.

Any advice?

Maureen
