Unintentionally terped?

Hi,

It's been a while since I last posted here, other stuff taking up my time. Two
days ago I got around to doing some henna again, and something strange happened with
the colour. I used a NON-terped paste (for the second time ever) and the color came out
darker than it did before with terps! Maybe somebody here can figure out what
happened?

I used plain henna (noname brand from local shop) and I was going to mix
it with fresh lemon juice, but my lemons had gone bad. So I used lime juice from a plastic
squeezebottle instead. It's cold overhere at the moment, so I put it in a plastic box,
wrapped it in a towel, and left it on the heater for a couple of hours. Then I added a
teaspoon of brown sugar, a little more lime juice, and applied tje henna in a bold
pattern to both sides of my left hand. I let it dry, warmed my hand in front of heater for a
long while, fixed 'cracks', let dry and went to bed (no wrap, just henna-crumbs in the
bed, yes, very understanding husband!). Next morning I steamed the paste that hadn't
crumbled off overnight over a pot of boiling water, and scraped/washed the rest of the
paste off. A good dark orange, except on my nails, which where a pale orange. Now, about
48 hours later my fingertips are dark brownish-red, going towards aubergine at the
very tips and on the thumb, and the pattern on my palm is almost as dark. The back of my
hand is slightly paler brown, still quite dark. My nails are still orange, only
slightly darker than before.

I'm surprised because it's actually *darker* than
my terped mixes were, and because it barely took on my nails (never use nailpolish,
last time I came near a nailfile was months ago). Especially since it's the same
'brand' of henna I used before, the only difference is I kept this one in the fridge for
longer before using. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the lime juice
company spikes their limejuice with lime essential oil (some brands do that, this one
might, but the label has come off the bottle so I can't check). But they'd have to have
put an awful lot of lime EO in it for it to pack this kind of punch. I used quite a lot of TT
before (on warm(ish) summer days, no less), and this is much darker.

Oh wait, I
just remembered something else, I was running a bit of a temperature the night I put it
on. Could that have spiked the colour this much?

Thanks for any
input!

Cheers,

Sarah
