my problems with a brew

For a long time I made a "brew" and used it along with lemon to get
the consistency right.
I boiled water, added lemons or limes, then cloves, black tea, coffee,
red wine, garlic, tamarind, fenugreek...
First of all be careful with a mix that has coffee in it. I learned
this from kree who drinks coffee like water and there were times that
the henna made me (and clients) wired.
Secondly be careful with clove and especially black pepper; they can
burn sensitive skin.
Last but not least I gave up on a brew (we called it "Diva Mix")
because of the chlorine in water. I was getting meager stains, and
finally figured out *any* tap water affected the stain. Of course,
it depends on the water where you are...
