I saw in another message that you went to UC Santa Cruz. My
girlfriend and I *love* Santa Cruz. Just a fantastic town. In
summertime, we often spend a bit of time on the campus for the
Shakespeare Santa Cruz festival. In fact, my girlfriend is
interviewing for a job in SC later this week. But it's tough, because
for us to work there, we'd probably have to live there. (The commute
into Silicon Valley, as you surely know, is just a bear on the
twisty, turning highway 17). Nice problem to have, I guess?
You've got my respect for living in NYC. Growing up in Los Angeles
proper, I figured that I'd seen it all. "Big city? Ha, LA is so big
it bends past the horizon!" But when I visited NY a few years back, I
was pretty surprised at how monstrous NY was. And I use that
adjective in both a positive and negative way, as there was a LOT to
like about NY. I had a great visit, I loved the city... but I don't
think I'd want to live there. Not without income to match (which
sounds shallow, I s'pose). And as a student... well, that's why I
said you've got my respect.
Have a great time visiting your family! How long do you get to stay?
Just a weekend?
: Actually I got out of San Mateo as soon as I could for the woods of
: Santa Cruz, but lived in Seattle for almost five years before moving
: to NYC last August. I moved here for grad school; still not sure
: I can handle it, and I miss the Bay Area. Actually I'm visiting
: on Friday for my brother's graduation from Berkeley.
: Good work, keep at it, and "see" you around.
