yes, living in most areas of LA simply requires that you own a car.
That's the beauty of NYC: the traffic is so bad, and Manhattan
so "small" (by comparison to LA, at least), that it just doesn't make
much sense to make a car your primary method of transportation in
NYC. Plus, there are taxis everywhere, whereas in LA you can go
through entire neighborhoods and not see a single one.
So are you still on the fence about NY? Not sure if you really want
to stay there? Are you considering finishing your graduate work
somewhere else, or are your feelings not so strong that you'd
actually consider leaving? We can take this into email if it's
getting too off-topic, and if you've got time for this sorta thing,
Anyway, thanks for the good wishes re: henna. It's been so much fun
thus far... and finding this community and all the related web pages
has made it all the more exciting. Really inspiring to see the work
that people are doing. Also I appreciate the tips on how to deal with
henna on one's sole. I dunno if I'll ever "turn pro", but then again,
if you'd asked me two months ago if I would have ten different kinds
of henna in my fridge, I'd have laughed out loud. :)
: Hi Paul,
: Actually, i worked for SSC while in school! And a friend of mine
: often been in their plays.
: The highway 17 commute just plain SUCKS. I actually ended up
: a job "over the hill" and becoming a bike messenger, and eventually
: selling my car, due to that commute.
: there are many good things about living in SC, but bad things too.
: you do end up moving there, check out The Alarm newspaper; it's
: starting up and is run by friends of mine.
: NY is crazy. I see why people end up staying, but I can see why
: people get out, too. But the sheer number of random, cool, cultural
: things going on here is amazing. Now LA...I couldn't deal with LA,
: cause of the car thing. I think the smog here is a little less bad,
: and it rains more (it's raining now).
: Anyway, I wish you the best of luck with henna. I don't know if
: are any artists around there so you may have a good market for when
: you go "pro!"
: I get to spend a week in CA and hopefully some time in Santa Cruz,
: then back here for henna, finishing a crazy paper, and getting a
: happy dark stains - for the bottom of the foot, try doing it in bed,
: then wrapping with tp and a sock once it's dry...i know I hate
: around too!
