Yes you do need to let the paste dry. Then spray on your newskin.
The newskin traps the henna so it won't fall off. Don't worry about
the paste being dry as your hands sweat the henna will become moist
again.
To take the paste off hold your hand above the steam from a boiling
pot of water. Be careful not to burn yourself.
Or you can run the newskin off by applying an oil such as
euculiptus,lavender,pine that you have dilluted in a carrier oil.

Don't wash your hands. Water isn't that good at getting the newskin
off and it will ruin your stain.

Sometimes after I newskin a little will linger for a day or two. It
will flake off or the oil will take care of it.

If you spray newskin on before it drys your paste will smudge and run
and the stain will be smeared.
