I feel the same way about home appointments- you have to see people,
but of course it's dangerous to some extent. I'll likely not have a
in-home studio for a long time, either.
During summer months, he could go with you and stay in the car with
the baby. Have him bring a book or something. Boring but safe.
Muslim women would probably understand if you asked if your husband
could come along and bring the baby and stay in another room. Many
others would too, especially fellow moms.
If you go alone, you could call when you arrive as well as before
leaving and confirm the address and phone number you're at. This has
the advantage that if anyone did have plans other than henna in mind,
they would know that someone is waiting for you and knows where you
are and when to expect you back.
You might also rethink your having-people-over option. You don't
need a separate room for a studio, you just need a relatively clean
living room or kitchen with a couple chairs and a table. Lately,
I've told people that I have a new baby and it would be easier if
they came over, and that if they wanted to bring a friend or husband,
they are welcome to do so. This seems to go over pretty well.
Best of luck in working this out, and please share your solutions
when you find them!
Lauren
